What is Qredits?

These partners are the following: three banks, the ABN AMRO bank, ING Nederland and Rabobank Nederland, the ministry of Social Affairs & Employment and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation.

Qredits is the only nationwide operating microfinance institution in Holland. It has an organizational model consisting of a managing director, a risk manager, a team of 17 loan officers and a centralized back office. In total Qredits has 30 employees and 10 geographically centralized locations where loan officers are stationed. In 2009/2010 1200 loans were granted.

The Qredits mission can be described as follows: to provide financing and coaching for micro-entrepreneurs, both existing and start-up in the Netherlands, who have viable business plans but no access to regular credit facilities.

Qredits' aim is to realize this by providing entrepreneurs a credit capacity of up to 50.000 Euros, although approximately 70% of the client group recieve a credit capacity < 25.000 Euros.

Clients also receive coaching for at least the first year, in order to maximize the chance of the survival of the enterprise.

Qredits has adopted the practice of  a new sustainable approach to microfinance: a blend of  traditional banking combined with highly sophisticated  IT.

Qredits also has revisited traditional banking by working with loan officers in different regions who visit and assess potential clients personally. While this concept is currently that is being abandoned in modern day banking due to the costs involved, Qredits' return to traditional banking has been strengthened through the use of a custom-made method for loan assessment. This is necessary with a target group that cannot be financed through regular financing channels, and thus cannot be assessed with standardized methods or criteria.

Sophisticated IT support has also been successfully implemented into several parts of the process thus creating a sustainable approach.

Qredits is the winner of the Giordano Dell’Amore Microfinance Good Practices Europe Award 2010.
